Next steps in designing a 500 ton Sailing Cargo vessel

The current team still exists of the advisers and ambassadors of the first hour. Although we might not work together with them on a daily or weekly basis, they are still very much involved whenever there is a specific question or need.

With entering our new office place at ‘Het Nieuwe Warenhuis’, it also became possible to attract a team to really working together at a physical location. Until now it had been mainly Elise, for communication and design and myself for different jobs and promotion.

But now we started actively looking for an office and design crew. The first to offer his knowledge and experience fulltime was Paul, the Master Rigger, who originally designed the rigging of sail cargo vessel Tres Hombres. This square-rig seaman, has, next to rounding Cape Horn and crossing the Ocean many times, been involved in rigging several modern Clipper ships. Another team member to join our office was, one of our original advisers: Dirk Klaassen, who is taking on the role of Financial manager.

Apart from the core team, we are also working together with two specialist from the United Kingdom, Hannah and Charlie. They are very inspired and interested to learn anything about the emerging sailing cargo ship industry. Currently they are carrying out market research, gathering information from interested parties whilst continuing to spread the EcoClipper story on Facebook, Linkedin, Instagram and Twitter.

First investment round successfully closed.

Initially the capital investments, needed to start up EcoClipper, were brought together by the advisors and ambassadors. Recently we came in contact with two partners who joined the company with further investments, to proceed with the development of the specifications.

These investments should be sufficient to further develop the EcoClipper500 prototype, until the stage that shipyards can be approached for detailed building quotations.

As a subscriber of the Newsletter you will be kept updated about when the next investment round will take off. Information about this can also be found on the website.

EcoClipper500 prototype

Further development of the EcoClipper 500 Specs.

After we made the short specifications for the EcoClipper500 prototype, we got a lot of feedback from different naval engineers and maritime specialists. We are currently in the process of further specifying the different details of our prototype.

While I write this, our Master Rigger, Paul DeNoble, has set himself to the task of describing the standing and running rigging, all masts, spars and bands in detail. Also, we are working together with a selected group of advisers to further continue writing the different chapters of the specifications, to describe: sizes, materials and building procedures of the entire vessel. Also, the initial designs of the Naval architects of Sailvolution are back on the “drawing table” and ready to be updated.

By the beginning of summer this large job should be finalized, and we should be able to supply, the shipyards from our shortlist with sufficient information to make the best possible price calculations and quotations.

Press Release: Wind transport ready for the next step!

Today the sailing freighter “De Tukker” returned from her maiden voyage. This journey started a few weeks ago in Amsterdam and took her through various European ports to Portugal and back to the Netherlands. Along the way, a mixed load was transported in a sustainable manner. The ship is propelled by sails and can therefore sail emission-free, even over long distances.
