EcoClipper’s target group market are small to medium-sized companies with a link to sustainability, ecological production or fair trade. These businesses represent the fastest growing commercial sector in the United States and Europe and is a substantial economic power.
Once the shipping lines start operating, EcoClipper expects a surge in demand from importers and exporters in mid- to high- income countries. As the shipping lines become more established, and as climate change has greater impact, companies from other sectors and low-income countries will enter the customer base.
In 2017, the international shipping industry was worth over 500 billion US Dollars (Source: Bloomberg, 2017). According to a 2017 market trend report by Lloyds Register, the maritime sector will see strong growth in the years up to 2030; seaborne trade will increase from 9 billion tonnes to between 19-24 billion tonnes per year. This is a tremendous increase in demand in ten years.
At the same time the International Maritime Organisation (IMO)has set a goal that annual emissions from shipping should be reduced by at least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008. The IMO’s ultimate goal is a totally emission-free shipping sector. In our opinion this can only be reached by embracing of sail power.
EcoClipper is pursuing a strategy of story-based marketing, with a strong presence in social, new and standard media. The strategy has several stages. First launching the website and approaching trendsetting businesses in the market for letters of intent to build strategic partnerships. Second, building presence in all media channels. Third, organizing events for cargo owner in strategic ports on the routes to be served. EcoClipper’s ambassadors and crew will maintain strong communications to build our brand and community.
